By Peter's Name
from 8 June 2022 to 2 April 2023
The exhibition tells about the first Russian emperor, the founder of St. Petersburg as a symbolic figure, image and character of cultural mythology. It presents items from the collections of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, the State Museum of Urban Sculpture, the Museum of Russian Drama
Particular attention is paid to the theme of the embodiment of the image of Peter the Great in literature, art and cinema. The stylistic and semantic evolution of the Petrine image is shown through the paintings and graphic works of outstanding artists of the 18th–20th centuries. There are illustrations for the literary works of A. S. Pushkin, A. N. Tolstoy on the theme of Peter the Great; costumes, photographs, invitation cards and posters of theatrical performances; film posters about Peter and his era - from the silent film of 1910 "Peter the Great" to late Soviet feature films.
