International Council of Museums
The organisation, founded in 1946, unites over 30, 000 members, representing the global museum community. It is a unique network of institutions and museum professionals from 137 counties and territories. The ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums establishes minimum standards for professional practices and achievements for museums and their employees. ICOM's 31 International Committees discuss and reflect on specific museum and heritage-related issues.
ICOM's missions include:
· Preservation of cultural heritage and fighting the illicit traffic of cultural goods
· Education
· Culture and knowledge promotion
· Development of international collaboration between the museums
State Museum of the History of St Petersburg is the ICOM member since 2006.
