Similar weapons were developed by the design bureau of the Plant 172 and produced in 1937-1946. They served as the main means of howitzer artillery of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War. In 1992-2002 this weapon was used for performing the ritual of noon shot from the Naryshkin bastion of Petropavlovskaya fortress.
