Breakthrough
Exhibition is dedicated to 70th anniversary of breaking of the siege of Leningrad which was the first step to successful military operations leading to liberation of the city from the siege.
The exhibition “Breakthrough” is the prologue and part of a large three-year project. To continue the topic, in 2014 it is planned to open an exhibition “Liberation” dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad and in 2015 – a project for the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The exhibition features photographs, maps of military operations, posters, diaries, letters and drawings of inhabitants of the besieged city from the Museum collections.
Photographs will tell the visitors about a carefully planned offensive operation “Iskra” which resulted in breaking the siege of Leningrad, which gave an opportunity to establish an overland connection between the city and the country.
The exhibition is complement with diaries of the citizens of Leningrad, opened on the date January 18, 1943 and letters of Leningraders to their relatives, posters of 1943 and visual propaganda, which encouraged citizens to work for victory.
