In terms of the IV St Petersburg International Cultural Forum
Peter and Paul Fortress, Postern and casemate of Gosudarev Bastion
Today the officially recorded number of historical and cultural monuments in Russia extends over 130 thousand. A priceless heritage, symbol of national identity of the Russian people, is a great challenge because of the preservation problem. How to restore and maintain the monuments and where to search for funding? In order to deal with these and many other problems the Cultural and Historical Monuments Management Agency was created by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Property Relations in 2000.
The main purpose of this exhibition is to show the strategies of the Agency, which supervises more than 200 protected sites, using the case studies of 5 monuments from various time periods located in different Russian cities.
The staff of the Agency thoroughly studied and reconstructed the unique history of each of the five sites, using archive materials, measurements, drawings, photographs and applied art pieces. The exhibition displays the Agency’s field of activity as well as its methods of work: research work, restoration and adaptation projects.
