They (Anthropology of the unseen)
Personal exhibition of a St. Petersburg film director Vladimir Kaminsky.
Peter and Paul Fortress, Postern and casemate of the Gosudarev (Tzar) bastion
Personal exhibition of a St. Petersburg film director Vladimir Kaminsky.
Vladimir Kaminsky is a native Petersburger. He graduated from GITIS, a theater director at present. He staged 47 performances in St. Petersburg, Moscow, Petrozavodsk, Yekaterinburg and Kazakhstan. In 2002 he started working in the field of documentary film and shot 15 auteur films. Six years ago Vladimir Kaminsky became interested in photography.
Exhibition at the Peter and Paul Fortress presents photographs by Vladimir Kaminsky, depicting the “parallel” world of St. Petersburg, which is not usually seen by common senses of perception. This is a slice of life of the open to everyone and secret at the same time residents of the city. In this world the author discovers a surprising variety of “human-like” creatures - scary, funny, good-natured ... That is how They appeared, due to attention and fantasy of the photographer, from a bizarre connection of unused gas or water pipes, hoses, valves, electrical wires and other neglected remains of civilization.
They are not St. Petersburg Olympus, not the sculptures of gods from the gables and attics. They represent the “second life” of utilitarian objects that lost their original purpose.
They are like us. We created them by our initial enthusiasm and subsequent oblivion in which They became themselves. They are the characters for animation, monsters from horror films, archaic sculptures - a dream of an Art Nouveau sculptor. Some live in special niches like the Roman Lares - they are our brownies, guardians and protectors... Others ignore us. But as soon as you meet the eye of such a being you are caught! And it is not a connection of gas pipes anymore, but “Surprised”, “Suspicious”, “Carefree”... Not scraps of rusty wire, but “Tragedy. Laocoon”... Not an electric switchboard, but “Brownie”, “Cardinal”... Not a cracked wall, but a sketch of Michelangelo or the phantom of ancient frescoes.
They are everywhere. They express Genio Loci of St. Petersburg. If you can see them.
