The exhibition features engravings, lithographs, postcards and photographs with views of Paris and its suburbs of the 17th – early 20th century. Applied art pieces and souvenirs on display also depict the capital of France. The displayed items not only create the unique Paris atmosphere, but also show how the city evolved over time.
A rich collection of works of art and objects with Paris views within the museum’s collection is related to one of the periods of the museum’s long history. The City Museum, one of the predecessors of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, was opened in 1918 at the Anichkov Palace and focused on the history of the origin and development of the global urban culture. The museum collected images of the world’s largest cities and most of it is preserved nowadays at the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg.
