Exhibition of works by St Petersburg artist Zhanna Kovenchuk
The exhibition presents 24 works by St Petersburg artist Zhanna Kovenchuk created in 1970-2010s.
Zhanna Kovenchuk was born in 1940 in Moscow. She graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Leningrad State University. In 1968 she began to paint. In 1993 she became a member of St Petersburg Union of Artists. Zhanna Kovenchuk participated in numerous exhibitions in Russia and abroad. Nowadays she lives and works in St Petersburg.
The works of the artist are in the collection of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg and private collections in Great Britain, Germany, Russia, USA and France.
Most part of the works exhibited in the Museum of St Petersburg Avant-garde is still life. They depict the things that are constantly in the field of view of the artist - the simple things: kettles and pans, fruits and berries, fresh fish and onion sprouts, carton of milk and old newspaper. Zhanna Kovenchuk is very undemanding towards the basis of her future paintings - she can write on a variety of surfaces. For example, the work “Lemons” shown at the exhibition is written on a side table door.
Zhanna Kovenchuk also writes landscapes and portraits. Visitors can see the view from the window of a Leningrad apartment, streets of a Siberian city covered with snow and scenes on the beach in Crimea. Beside them are portraits of her husband and close friend, images of pets.
