“Storm of the 1812...”
from 24 August 2012 to 29 December 2012
The Great Patriotic War of 1812 in Russian poetry and memoirs of eyewitnesses.
Exhibition, dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 is opened in terms of a permanent exhibition “Block and his Circle”. It brought together thirty editions of the XIX century with poems and memories about the war.
“This glorious year has passed but the committed deeds will stay forever” - words from the decree of Emperor Alexander I announcing the expulsion of the French army out of Russia.
The Great Patriotic War of 1812 was praised by many Russian poets - those who fought against the enemy in those days, as Denis Davydov and Konstantin Batyushkov, as well as those who were an adolescent, like Alexander Pushkin, but also those who were not yet born then, as Mikhail Lermontov.
The exhibition is devoted to the poets, who glorified the events of those days. The editions of the XIX century introduce memoirs of witnesses and participants of the military events – Fyodor Glinka, Robert Wilson, César Laugier - and poems by Denis Davydov, Vasily Kapnist, Vasily Zhukovsky, Yevgeny Baratynsky, Konstantin Batyushkov, Alexander Pushkin, Nikita Butyrsky and Karolina Pavlova dedicated to the Great Patriotic War of 1812. Special attention should be paid to the publication of poems of Mikhail Lermontov, prepared with the assistance of Alexander Blok. Some rare books are presented at the exhibition: “Notes of a Russian officer” and “Letters to a Friend” by Fyodor Glinka of 1815 and 1817's.
The exhibition is complemented with two medals issued by the St. Petersburg Mint for the 100th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of 1812.
Admission to the exhibition with a general ticket to the Alexander Blok Museum.
