"Design of objects and nature." Exhibition of Stefania Ranghieri
The Peter and Paul Fortress, Postern and Casemate of the Gosudarev (Tsar’s) Bastion
The exhibition by Italian artist and designer Stefania Ranghieri is held within a framework of Saint-Petersburg Architecture and Design Week. The exhibition displays unique items of interior design made of modern synthetic materials which combine exquisite style and innovation.
Stefania Ranghieri was born in 1963 in Gallarate (Varese). Later she graduated from High School of Art and then received a degree in sculpture class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera (Milan). Since 1998 she has been teaching at the Federico Faruffini City Art School in Sesto-San-Giovanni (Milan).
The art of Stefania Ranghieri harmonically combines industrial design and high art, functionalism and a longing for elegance and sophistication, interest towards ultra-modern art materials and techniques as well as the traditional devotion to natural beauty.
Stefania Ranghieri experiments with a variety of modern materials. Since 2003 she is working actively with plexiglas (acrylic glass). It is a transparent, flexible, figurable material which not only can be easily transformed under the influence of mechanical or thermal treatment but can be dyed in any color. An interesting creative solution which added expressiveness to the objects made of acrylic glass was to "solder" fragments of the nature: flowers, leaves and twigs of trees, shells, natural fibers, etc.
The exhibition in the Fortress will present 40 objects made of acrylic glass, created by Stefania Ranghieri since 2003: panels, vases, interior items (for example a table made of green colored plexiglas with "soldered" birch twigs).
The grand opening of the exhibition "Design of objects and nature" in terms of the official program of the St. Petersburg Architecture and Design Week (23-30 May) will take place on May 22, 2012 at 16:00. The opening will be attended by Stefanie Ranghieri, curator of the exhibition Enzo Fornaro, representatives of the General Consulate of Italy in St. Petersburg and the organizers of the St. Petersburg Architecture and Design Week.
