Vladimir Yakovlevich Tsesler was born on 30April, 1951 in Slutsk, Minsk region. In 1980 he graduated from the design department of the Belarusian Theatre and Art Institute (now - Academy of Arts). Lives and works in Minsk.
Tsesler is an artist and one of the most famous designers of post-Soviet period. He is the creator of the brand concept and design solutions of “Yo-mobil”, as well as the author of design for a book series “Results of the century” and monument “Mu-Mu” in Amsterdam (in collaboration with Nikolai Bayrachny). Winner of 40 awards at international competitions, biennials and festivals in the sphere of posters, books and advertising. His works are in museums of Belarus, Germany, Canada, Poland, Russia, France, South Korea and Japan.
There is a good reason why “Π – ART” - a PR-rhyme invented by Tsesler is used as a name of his final exhibition. Tsesler thinks that the proportion of artist's life to his work expresses an irrational number pi (π).
The exhibition “π – ART” presents Tsesler’s program projects (some he created as a co-author), which illustrate many-sidedness and creativity of the artist. Among them there are works on serious topics such as the tragic events of Russian and world history (“Stainless Stalin”, “Poland, 1939” or “Afghan”) and works made in the genre of popular print “lubok” or a funny story.
The famous project “Project of the Century: twelve out of the XX” created by Tsesler in collaboration with Sergei Voichenko deserves special attention. It is a collection of 12 massive eggs: each of them is made of some certain material and dedicated to one of the figures of the World Culture: Kazimir Malevich, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, etc. The texture of materials and colors of each egg represent a key idea of a creative personality.
The exhibition also shows a series of op-art-objects “Vector technologies”, spatial objects, design concepts and a series “Classroom” - posters for school classrooms on which one can see the faces of today's politicians, actors and businessmen.
