The exhibition, which opens on the threshold of the New Year 2012, is dedicated to the history of New Year celebrations in Russia. New Year stories about Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) and Snegurochka (Snow Maiden), a snowman, a Christmas tree and the Bethlehem star will be told on the basis of a unique collection of pre-revolutionary and Soviet greeting card from the collections of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. The exhibition will open to the visitors a fascinating world of symbolic attributes and characters, symbols and allegories; will introduce to the key and most common themes and “heroes” of New Year greeting cards from different historical periods.
The exhibition is complement by paintings, drawings and photographs related to the Christmas theme; Christmas decorations, gifts, souvenirs, Christmas banners and posters of festive celebrations, calendars.
