Peter and Paul Fortress, Neva Curtain Wall

The St. Petersburg Kunstkamera is one of the main “characters” of her St. Petersburg cycle: every year the artist creates new art interpretations of this monument of Peter I epoch. Alla shows the Kunstkamera from different points of view, in daylight and in the shimmering lights of night, surrounded by houses, on the background of the St. Petersburg sky and in the reflection on the surface of the Neva River.
The line of fascination by St. Petersburg goes through the entire cycle of works by Alla Rusu which is presented at the exhibition. In her paintings the city is far from the usual images of buildings and embankments. On her landscapes reality is connected with the inner world of the artist, giving rise to complex associative fields, rhythms and colors, which reflect a keen, independent perception of St. Petersburg as a dialogue of water and air elements.
