Exhibition about the history of St Petersburg football and Zenit Football Club
Peter and Paul Fortress, Neva Curtain Wall
The exhibition tells about the history of St Petersburg football and Zenit Football Club. It includes objects from the collections of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg and the collection of the Zenit football club: posters, photographs, lithography, architectural drawings, models of Leningrad stadiums, examples of football uniforms, trophies and much more.
On May 25, 1925 a football team was organized on the ground of the Leningrad Metal Works (LMZ) and later was named Stalinets. It is considered to be the progenitor of Zenit. The exhibition presents photographs of the first pre-war match of the USSR football championship with Stalinist in 1936.
Photo reports presented at the exhibition hall of the Neva curtain wall captured many victorious matches of Zenit in different years. For example, photos of the final match of the Fifth USSR Cup series on August 27, 1944, where the Zenit has defeated CDKA (now CSKA Moscow). With this victory the USSR Cup came to Leningrad for the first time. The exhibition also features photographs of matches of the 1980s and 1990s.
The exhibition is complemented with examples of modern football uniforms, trophies from the Russian Football Cup, Russian Cup and Super Cup, UEFA Cup and Super Cup, Premier League Cup and materials telling about the present Zenit.
History of Zenit is tightly connected with the history of the development of football in our city. Therefore, the exhibition also features, for example, football jerseys of the pre-revolutionary Petrograd teams from the collections of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg, soccer gaiters and knee pads of the 1930s.
