Personal exhibition of works by Varvara Bubnova (1886-1983). Varvara Bubnova - a graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts – is well-known among the Russian avant-garde artists. She was a member of the “Union of Youth”, “Knave of Diamonds” and "Donkey's Tail”. Her works were exhibited along with works by Kazimir Malevich, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova and Olga Rozanova. Varvara Bubnova worked in the Institute of Artistic Culture with Vasily Kandinsky, Alexander Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova and Lyubov Popova. Sche was the knight of the Order of the Precious Crown - the highest imperial award of Japan. Born in St. Petersburg, Varvara Bubnova worked in Japan since 1922; in 1958 she returned to her homeland and settled in Sukhumi, Abkhazia. The exhibition will present watercolors, drawings and lithographs of Japanese and Abkhazian period of the 1920-1970s. The displayed collection miraculously survived several wars and journeys, part of the works was considered to be lost.
