Collection of the Duke of Georgy Mecklenburg-Strelitz in the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg St Petersburg

The exhibition will present a part of the art collection of Dukes Mecklenburg-Strelitz, preserved in the collections of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg.
Many of the works in this collection are connected with the so-called genre of “picturesque journeys” which formed in the 1770-1780-s and was popular throughout the XIX century.
The exhibition will present a part of the art collection of Dukes Mecklenburg-Strelitz, preserved in the collections of the State Museum of the History of St Petersburg: engravings, lithographs, books of the XVIII-XIX centuries with views of Venice, London, Milan, Paris, Rome, Russian cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan) and eastern countries (Turkey, Egypt, Algeria).
The exhibition brought together more than 200 items of rare illustrated books, Russian, English and French engravings and lithographs of the XVIII-XIX centuries, which were the part of the collection of Duke Georgy Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his family - one of the richest private collections of St. Petersburg. These are images of ancient monuments, views of cities of the Western Europe, Russia and the East. The exhibition is complemented with rare book editions and photographs related to the history of the family of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
